Add/Remove Fields to/from a Form

This guide explains how to add or remove Fields on a Form and how to create new Customer Fields while editing a Form, so your Forms always collect the information you need.

Written by Costa Bontioti

📝 Overview

A Form's Fields come from your Customer Field list. There will be times when you want to add or remove an existing Field on a Form, or ask a question that does not yet exist as a Field.

This guide covers how to add and remove Fields on your Forms, how the Signup Forms differ, and how to create a brand new Field without leaving the Form you are editing.

💡 For an introduction to Customer Fields, see the guide here. To learn how the Customer Field list works, see the guide here.

🛠️ Setup

You manage a Form's Fields from within the Form editing flow. The steps differ slightly between your regular Forms and the Signup Forms, so both are covered below.

➕ Adding or removing Fields on a Form

To change the Fields on a Form, go to Forms/DocumentsCustomer Forms ➜ click Options next to the Form in question ➜ Edit.

🔔🆕 Editing a Form now takes you through the same steps as creating one, with Add/Remove Fields as its own step in the flow.

Then continue to the Add/Remove Fields step.

Existing Fields can be added or removed quickly. Click Add or Delete next to each Field as required.

Then click on Next to preview the form, and click on Done to save the changes.

💡 For the full Form editing flow, including Requirements and Timing, see the guide here.

📋 Editing Fields on the Signup Forms

The Signup Form and the Non-Participating Signup Form work differently from your other Forms, and adding or removing Fields is the only change you can make to them.

To manage their Fields, go to Forms/DocumentsCustomer Forms ➜ click Edit Details to the right of each. From the Form Fields page you can add or delete Fields, create a new Field, search your Fields, and preview the Form.

✨ Creating a new Field on a Form

If you need a Field that does not yet exist, you can create it while editing the Form. This creates the Field in your Customer Field list and adds it to the Form in a single action, and multiple Fields can be created and added at once.

Each Field you create asks for the following.

Label

Specifies what the data means, for example "How did you hear about us?". Labels have a 300-character limit.

Type

Tells you what kind of data the Field holds. You can choose from single line of text, long text, date, yes/no, whole numbers, decimal numbers, one choice, multiple choice, address, and phone number.

Show on the customer profile page?

Fields with this setting appear on the customer profile page on your Business Dashboard (CustomersCustomer List ➜ search for the Customer) and can be edited from there as well.

Ask when adding customers via the business dashboard?

Fields with this setting are shown to staff when creating Customers on your Business Dashboard.

Once you have created your Field, you can create further Fields in the same way before continuing with the rest of the Form.

💡 For more on creating Fields, see the guide here. For multiple choice Fields specifically, see the guide here.

You can also mark Fields on a Form as optional, as explained here.

Where do a Form's Fields come from?

Click the arrow to see the answer

All Fields live in your Customer Field list. Adding a Field to a Form pulls it from that list, and creating a Field while editing a Form adds it to the list at the same time.

Can I create several new Fields at once?

Click the arrow to see the answer

Yes. After creating a Field you can create another in the same way, and each one is added to both the Form and your Customer Field list.

Why can I not edit the Signup Form like my other Forms?

Click the arrow to see the answer

The Signup Form and the Non-Participating Signup Form only support adding or removing Fields. Use the Edit Details button next to each of them to manage their Fields.

Can I make a Field on a Form optional?

Click the arrow to see the answer

Yes. Fields added to a Form can be marked as optional so Customers can skip them and still submit. See the Marking Customer Fields in Forms as Optional guide for the steps.
